Dimitri van den Bergh has dumped out defending champion, Jonny Clayton to reach the Quarter-Finals of the
World Grand Prix in Leicester.
Van den Bergh sealed a 3-2 sets win in another tie that went all the way with an 89 average, four 180's, four ton plus checkouts and 54.5% on finishing doubles. Next up is Peter Wright in the latter stages.
Clayton sealed the first set with 75% on his finishing doubles as he made a superb start but Van den Bergh upped his level in the second set with a 3-1 set win with a 93 average as he drew level which he continued as he pinned a 113 checkout to go 2-0 up in the third set.
The ton plus magic continued as Van den Bergh hit a 180 followed by 153 to go 2-1 up in sets and he went to the brink with a 112 checkout at 2-1 in the fourth but Clayton hit back.
He found a 104 checkout and after Van den Bergh missed two match darts, Clayton took it all the way. The Belgian hit another ton plus to begin the deciding set with a 110 checkout and broke with a 62 checkout to go one away.
A superb 174 to leave 32 for Van den Bergh saw him en route to victory with Clayton unable to hit 170.
