But in getting his first leg on the board, Van den Bergh broke back and hit his first 180 and 72 checkout to square it up at 2-2.
Both exchanged 180’s but Van den Bergh missed 92 for another break only for Rodriguez to miss two at double 12 for a 75 checkout allowing the Belgian to step in and lead for the first time at 3-2.
Van den Bergh on return opened up a two leg gap going 5-3 up. Rodriguez held throw on double 20 to go 5-4 down. He pinned a 180 but missed 108 for a break back with Van den Bergh returning after priorly missing 110 to hit double eight and go 6-4 up.
On return from the interval, Van den Bergh pinned double eight to break again and go 7-4 up before holding to further stamp his authority at 8-4 and go three away from the win.
A 97 checkout saw the former champion go 9-5 up and two away with another hold. A 52 checkout saw Van den Bergh break again for five legs out of six and a 10-5 lead and he was throwing for the win.
But in throwing for the win, Van den Bergh didn’t seal it and Rodriguez broke back with an 83 checkout to prolong the tie and make it 10-6. An incredible 146 checkout though saw Van den Bergh seal it 11-6.
