Vincent van der Voort is experiencing a difficult year on the Pro Tour, yet the now 47-year-old Dutchman will continue for at least one more year.
Van der Voort hinted several times in recent months that he might quit. "I have indeed said that I had doubts about my future as a dart player," Van der Voort said to the podcast 'Double Top'. "There are many family members who are struggling with their health. I used to be able to get rid of that better, but now I notice that it's very difficult for me. I have to find the joy in darts again, but that's not easy."
Especially the corona period affected Van der Voort. "I had to leave the 2022 World Championship together with Michael van Gerwen after a positive corona test. Then we also got kicked by Barry Hearn (PDC president) that it was our own fault. That was really heavy-handed about it. I know from several players and officials that their positive coronatest has been put under the table and then we get a kick out like that, I was really sick of that."
However, Van der Voort also does not want to quit too soon. "No, because then you might regret your decision. If I stop it's final, I'm not going to do a 'Van Barneveld'," he laughed. "Whether I qualify for the World Championship this year or not, I have agreed with my sponsors that I will still play on the Pro Tour next year anyway."
