Vincent van der Voort still doesn't like Co Stompé: ''I have nothing to do with liars''

Vincent van der Voort was recently a guest on the podcast Double Top, where he was asked, among other things, a dilemma question about whether he still wasn't a fan of Co Stompé.

Van der Voort replied in the affirmative to that question. Around the 2018 World Darts Championship, Stompé had said that Van der Voort used his back problems as an excuse for defeats. In an interview during the World Darts Championship, Van der Voort responded by saying he thought Stompé was underhanded.

Relations between the two darters have not improved since then. ''That won't come right anymore either, it doesn't have to. Things have happened and that won't come right again. Michael (van Gerwen, ed.) and I have nothing with him. That doesn't matter either, but then it stops,'' Van der Voort said.

Also at RTL 7 and later Viaplay, the two Dutchmen no longer sat next to each other to give analysis during the tournaments. ''He didn't want to sit next to me anymore, because then I would have confronted him with the things he did. Anyone who knows me a little knows that I just say how things are and he didn't want that at the time. After that we said it's better if we don't sit together.''

However, Stompé's statements are not the only reason for the disturbed relationship between Stompé on the one hand and Van der Voort and Van Gerwen on the other, Van der Voort revealed.''He tried to write a book with people behind Michael's back and try to make money from it. He also wrote the foreword to the book. He wanted to promote that book through RTL and the author of the book had a pseudonym. They wanted to put it down in a bit of a backhanded way and we found that out. We confronted him and he kept saying he didn't do that. Then you're just a liar.''

When the book was released, it turned out that Stompé had indeed written the foreword. ''The foreword said: 'the foreword was written by Co Stompé'. There are also all the dates when the writer sat down with Co Stompé,'" Van der Voort continued. ''Other people have also been talking about Michael's career. They interviewed all kinds of people under the guise of we're just doing an interview. They then asked a lot of questions about Michael and at some point they turned that into a book.''

Van der Voort then revisited Stompé's aforementioned statement in which he accused "The Dutch Destroyer" of using his back problems as an excuse. ''He may think I'm looking for an excuse with my back, that's all right. Everyone is allowed to have his own opinion. But if you then ask someone why he doesn't say that in the broadcast, but only in such a book then suddenly I get 'I didn't say all that and I can't agree with this'. I just don't have anything to do with liars," Van der Voort said.
