Dirk van Duijvenbode and Damon Heta are into the second round at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam as the opening night of action continues.
Van Duijvenbode survived a scare as he edged past Haupai Puha in a decider 6-5 in a game which was marred by a vociferous crowd which included a vuvezela and non-stop whistling in any attempt to see their home hero over the line.
In the end, it worked as he won through to face Gary Anderson on Saturday evening with a 92 average, three 180's and 6/13 on the doubles.
To begin the tie, Puha missed the chance to go 3-1` up and was made to pay as Van Duijvenbode produced three consecutive legs including a 130 checkout to make it 4-2.
Van Duijvenbode missed darts at double though going forward and allowed Puha a route back into the tie and he was suddenly one away at 5-4 up but the crowd continued to get louder and Van Duijvenbode's power scoring proved pivotal in the decider as he stormed to victory.
While in an all-Aussie clash, Heta surged past Gordon Mathers in a 6-3 win with a 98.8 average and six 180's en route in a much needed big stage win for 'The Heat'.
He took the opening two legs but missed three darts at double in the third allowing Mathers back for a 90 checkout to make it 2-1. More costly misses allowed Mathers parity but Heta was averaging 104 as he found his form again with back-to-back legs.
A sixth 180 and double 16 saw Heta go one away before sealing victory from there with Michael van Gerwen next up.
