Van Gerwen admits he lost focus during Labanauskas win: "I told him I'd show him the 141 but I missed. That's how silly I was playing, it says a lot"

Michael van Gerwen defeated Darius Labanauskas in a 5-2 win to reach the semi-finals at the 2020 PDC World Championship but was pushed at times by his opponent.

Van Gerwen put that down to a lack of focus though more than anything; he said that even though a win is a win, him trying to show Darius how to finish a 141 when he missed a nine-darter shows that he wasn't concentrating.
"I think I made too many mistakes and my focus wasn't 100 percent there. A win is a win I can be happy with that; but at some points I am not happy with my performance," said Van Gerwen to Dan Dawson after claiming victory.
"Darius is a good player but respect to other players playing him, it makes it really hard for me because I like to perform against the best at the stage. Of course he deserves to be there but I want to do more. It was a bit boring I think."
"I told him I'd show him the 141; but I missed. That's how silly I was playing, it says a lot because I wasn't concentrating. Normally I wouldn't have to do things like that."
"I'm looking forward to playing Nathan (Aspinall) in the semi-finals. I think over this distance I am the massive favourite. But I was also the massive favourite against Darius and you see if I'm not 100 percent focused, I can make mistakes."
