Van Gerwen after returning to winning ways with comeback win over Aspinall: "I'm not in the best form of my life but I keep fighting"

Michael van Gerwen returned to winning ways to begin the second phase of the Premier League producing a comeback to see off Nathan Aspinall.
Van Gerwen who has lost this week to Gary Anderson and Glen Durrant has admitted he is not in his best form and that poor scores at the start of legs instead of his electric power scoring is one of the main issues.
"I'm not in the best form of my life but I keep fighting," said Van Gerwen.
"I think it was a really tense game from both of us. We both badly needed the points.
"I keep making things so difficult for myself with poor scores at the start of legs and I need to work hard to get over that step.
"At this moment I'm happy with two points, that's the most important thing.
"Darts is a mental game and when things don't go your way then you need to work hard to get out of it and that's why I'm world number one."

- Many fans had a sour taste in their mouth by the end of this match. Mike was cruising to victory, playing beautiful darts, when the whistling started in earnest, particularly on his doubles. You could see in Mike's face that it was really affecting his concentration. The referee should have asked for order, just to show that the whistling is unacceptable, and Luke Littler could also have done his part to quieten down the crowd instead of "taking full advantage.:" I put that down to his age though. He needs some good advice on this from his management team and/or more seasoned players. It's got to be about who's best on the night, not who is being harassed by the crowd. Luke Littler played well to get back into the game and win, but it was a hollow victory. If he goes on to win the tournament, that triumph too will be tainted because of this match.
