Michael van Gerwen produced an absolute masterclass reeling off six consecutive legs to see off Rob Cross to reach the UK Open semi-finals.
Van Gerwen didn't have a win in four years in the competition before this weekend begun and he had not won a title this year but it seems like Mighty Mike is on his way to potentially claiming his first major since 2019 Players Championship Finals in Minehead.
In his 10-4 victory, he hit four 180's, 48 percent on the checkouts with a high checkout of 127 with a 110.81 average en route.
Cross led in the early stages of the contest when Van Gerwen had his usual early match slump but he replied in kind levelling up the match in the early going with a 127 checkout.
From there he levelled up again with back-to-back 180's and a double 10 to make it 3-3 and he broke from there to make it 4-3 as he increased his average to 106.
He went in at the break 6-4 up with an even bigger average sitting at 109 hitting three 180's and 55 percent on the doubles. It was three consecutive legs from there as he raced into an 8-4 lead and already towards the finishing line.
Cross's average nosedived towards 80 as he just couldn't find the mark as Van Gerwen increased his further to the finish. He made it six consecutive legs in the end to claim victory in an absolute masterclass from the World Number One.
