Michael van Gerwen showed some of his destructive form in seeing off Dirk van Duijvenbode in a 10-5 win to finalise the semi-final line-up at the
Players Championship Finals in Coventry.
Van Gerwen has struggled as of late in Quarter-Finals but had no problems against his compatriot averaging 110 with a 148 checkout for the match underlining his dominance. He sets up a potentially blockbuster tie with Gerwyn Price next up.
It was Van Duijvenbode who hit first against Van Gerwen with the World Number One squandering five darts at doubles in the opening leg and Van Duijvenbode claimed it on double 20. But Van Gerwen claimed an immediate break back with a first 180 and an 88 checkout for 1-1.
Van Duijvenbode would have been in dream land as he went 3-1 up with 3/3 on the doubles but this soon turned as three consecutive legs from MVG saw him hit the front at 4-3.
It was six in a row as he broke and made it 7-4 with a 111 average as he seriously began to motor. Van Duijvenbode replied with a 116 checkout to trail 7-5 but Van Gerwen put himself one away at 9-5 up with a 100 checkout and from there, he smashed in the aforementioned 148 checkout and let out a roar. Is Van Gerwen on his way to his first TV title since March?
