Michael van Gerwen has regained the lead in the Premier League Darts as the Dutchman defeated William O'Connor 7-4 in Dublin.
O'Connor had the chance to play as a 'Challenger' for his home crowd. The Irish ace did very well, but a good result turned out to be out of reach. Van Gerwen hit two high finishes to make the difference and claim the win.
The world number one took out 134 to lead 3-1. But The Magpie refused to give out and finished 80 in the sixth leg to break back. Van Gerwen then hit a 110 finish to break his opponent again and extended his lead to 6-3. O'Connor grabbed one more leg with tops before the 30-year-old Dutchman finished the job with a 14-darter.
As a result of this victory the three-time world champion is back on top in the Premier League Darts as Glen Durrant
lost to Nathan Aspinall.
The Asp has as many points as its Dutch rival, but a less leg difference.
