Michael van Gerwen has returned to winning ways in this year’s Premier League with victory over Michael Smith after three defeats in his last four matches.
Van Gerwen averaged 102 and hit four 180’s in a win which has dispelled doubts before a short break. As a result he moves back in the top four of the standings.
Smith had a superb start to proceedings taking out 117 breaking throw immediately. He busted a 68 finish to hold his throw though and this allowed Van Gerwen back to break straight back.
He went on a roll from there going into a 3-1 despite only having 3/9 on the doubles. Smith broke back and made it 3-2 but couldn’t hold his throw once more. Van Gerwen returned to smash in a 110 checkout and made it 4-2.
From there, the Dutchman claimed another break at 6-2 as he went one away from a guaranteed point. Smith made a last gasp effort to return to the foray as he hit a 145 checkout to make it 6-4.
Van Gerwen replied with a 114 checkout to guarantee himself a point. From there, Mighty Mike edged through 8-5.
