Michael van Gerwen like many is preparing for the PDC circuit to restart in July with the PDC Summer Series seeing the first action between July 8-12.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the PDC circuit has been shut down since mid-March. The PDC Home Tour was started to replace this, in which Van Gerwen didn't participate.
This Summer Series though will see competitive action return with five Players Championship events set to take place. There is still uncertainty over these tournaments though with measures currently in place which see non-UK travellers having to quarantine for 14 days.
Despite that for certain sports such as Formula 1 and football, this has been altered to accommodate the elite sportsmen. The PDC hopes that it can sway the government to let them do the same. This will enable players like Van Gerwen to get over to the United Kingdom, without the need to self isolate.

Mighty Mike monitoring situation but plans to be involved if possible

Van Gerwen spoke to Dutch website Dartsnieuws with a response to this news and said he is monitoring it carefully but plans to be involved if possible. "It's news that I can't really do that much with yet. If they relax (the quarantine measures) I will definitely participate, there is no certainty yet.
According to the world number one, it is not possible to organise a ranking tournament without relaxing these measures. “It is almost impossible for Europeans to be there two weeks in advance. Two weeks in a quarantined hotel, the same food, that is difficult for European players.”
If there are not enough Tour Card holders present, the scheduled tournaments will not count towards the Order of Merit. Van Gerwen believes that the vast majority of the total of 128 Tour Card holders should be present to count the prize money towards the various Order of Merits.
"I think you should have 90% of the players there to count that at all, that would be a fair situation. But the question is whether that is possible.”

World Matchplay also potentially set for Milton Keynes

The Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes may also host the World Matchplay from July 18-26. This location has been mentioned as an alternative if the Winter Gardens in Blackpool cannot welcome a crowd during the prestigious major tournament.
This is due to everything being on site in Milton Keynes, it being central and it also being a hub for Matchroom events at the moment including the snooker. The event will be completed from July 18 to 26 no matter what.
Van Gerwen - winner of the World Matchplay in 2015 and 2016 - is happy with the clarity about the continuation of this tournament. "From delay comes postponement'', he refers to a Dutch saying. ''I think they should let it happen, even without an audience. The PDC should try to get in as many tournaments as possible,” said the three-time world champion.
