Michael van Gerwen advanced to the semi-finals in the eleventh week of the Premier League Darts with a strong victory over Gerwyn Price (6-3).
When trailing 3-2, Van Gerwen managed to set an inimitable acceleration. He hit a 11-darter to make 3-3, followed by a 13-dart leg and a 82 checkout. Price had chances to halve the deficit in the ninth leg, but missed his two chances. Van Gerwen then threw out 48 for a place in the last four.
In the semi-finals the Dutchman will play James Wade. The Machine got off to a late start against Michael Smith, but managed to beat his English compatriot 6-5.
New format
The eight participants play a tournament sixteen times. It will be arranged so that a player meets the other participants twice in the quarter-finals. During two weeks of play, in the eighth and sixteenth week, the draw is determined by league standings heading into each night.
Points can be scored with results in the sixteen tournaments. A semi-final earns two points, a second place three points and a tournament win five points and a £10,000 bonus. Based on these points the new Premier League Darts ranking is formed. The four best players advance to the Premier League Darts play-offs.
