Jonny Clayton and
Michael van Gerwen reached the final in the eleventh week of the
Premier League Darts on Thursday evening.
Clayton won 6-5 against Peter Wright in the first semi-final. The Scotsman started the match strongly, but Wright could not capitalize on a 4-2 lead. The last leg went to The Ferret with a 16-darter.
Van Gerwen triumphed comfortably against James Wade. The Dutchman broke Wade in the third leg with a 13-darter and eventually booked a 6-3 victory.
New format
The eight participants play a tournament sixteen times. It will be arranged so that a player meets the other participants twice in the quarter-finals. During two weeks of play, in the eighth and sixteenth week, the draw is determined by league standings heading into each night.
Points can be scored with results in the sixteen tournaments. A semi-final earns two points, a second place three points and a tournament win five points and a £10,000 bonus. Based on these points the new Premier League Darts ranking is formed. The four best players advance to the Premier League Darts play-offs.
