Michael van Gerwen is fit to play... After having a trapped nerve assessed in his back, he will feature in the Quarter-Finals, but will now play second against Max Hopp.
Michael van Gerwen is fit enough to play against Germany at the World Cup of Darts on Sunday afternoon. His participation had become uncertain after the world number one woke up with a back injury.
According to the PDC, there was a trapped nerve in the back of the 31-year-old Dutchman. Van Gerwen received medical treatment for this.
However, the question was whether this treatment was finished in time for Van Gerwen to play in his Quarter-Finals match. It was, but the three-time world champion will now play the second match in the singles against Max Hopp. Teammate Danny Noppert faces Gabriel Clemens in the first match. If both nations manage to win a single, there will be a deciding pairs match.
