Van Gerwen receives medical treatment for back injury; World Cup match against Germany in doubt

Michael van Gerwen is being medically assessed ahead of this afternoon's tie against Germany at the World Cup of Darts with potential doubts regarding Netherlands' continuation in Salzburg.

Van Gerwen woke up with recurrence of a long standing back problem which has previously seen him pull out of tournaments including the UK Open and a World Series event where he played with the pain but pulled out following it.

The World Number One remains hopeful of playing this afternoon but there are still doubts going into the game. Should Van Gerwen be unable to compete, Germany would receive a bye straight through to the semi-finals.
