A week on from their battle in the final of the World Grand Prix, they will rematch at the
Gibraltar Darts Trophy as
Michael van Gerwen will face
Nathan Aspinall albeit not in double in during the Quarter-Finals of the final
European Tour of the season.
Van Gerwen was not at his best against Jose de Sousa but got over the line in a 6-4 win. It was a 96 average and 6/16 on the doubles from The Green Machine.
After initially going 2-1 up, De Sousa broke due to missed darts at a double from Van Gerwen but was immediately hit back after missed darts of his own from 121 and a subsequent visit allowed MVG back for 3-3.
This back and forth continued until an 11-darter for an 81 checkout from MVG was followed by a less dazzling hold on double 20 for 5-4 before again pouncing on missed darts at a double to seal it.
While again for Aspinall, it was another day and another match he perhaps got lucky to win as he produced another mammoth comeback.
Well not as mammoth as 5-0 down, but Aspinall came from 5-2 down to seal a 6-5 win over Dirk van Duijvenbode to seal his place in the final session. But can he gain revenge tonight?
