The first darting action since March has began with Day One of the PDC Summer Series seeing Players Championship 9 take place in Milton Keynes. Michael van Gerwen is one player who has kicked off where he left off back in Minehead.

Van Gerwen eased past a potentially tricky test in his first round clash with Ciaran Teehan winning 6-1 with a 14 darter and two 15 darters en route as he was the first to book his place in the second round already.

For Gerwyn Price though who lost out in that final in Minehead to Van Gerwen, it was very nearly curtains. He came back from 5-3 down to defeat Jelle Klaasen 6-5 with 'The Cobra's return to action being anticipated after his form before the break and during it in the PDC Home Tour.

It wasn't to be though and the top seed made it through. As did the likes of Rob Cross who edged past Boris Krcmar who averaged 106 in losing 6-4; as well as James Wade, Ian White and Krzysztof Ratajski - three of the most consistent on the ProTour.

World Champion, Peter Wright is also through as well hitting back-to-back 180's in the decider to edge past Ron Meulenkamp.

But for Nathan Aspinall who many picked to have a good run on the opening day will head back to the hotel early as he was downed 6-5 in a decider against Niels Zonneveld with a comeback from 4-1 down not paying dividends.
