The first semi-final is set on Night Eight of
Premier League Darts action with
Michael van Gerwen set to face
Nathan Aspinall in Newcastle after two deciding leg wins.
Van Gerwen looked to be cruising against Peter Wright who sits rock bottom of the Premier League and has had to play MVG three weeks running but had to produce a huge 150 checkout in the decider to escape narrowly 6-5.
Backing up a break with a hold, he entered into a 2-0 lead with Wright using strangely MVG darts against the man himself as he looks to tinker with his setup once more.
Wright spurned a big chance to level the tie and MVG pinned double eight for a 4-2 advantage but he had trouble concluding the tie missing match darts and Wright sent it all the way with MVG having to bring out a roof raiser to seal it.
While for Aspinall, it was more than just a win with 'The Asp' snapping a near three year losing run against Dimitri van den Bergh and he showed some real emotion in getting over the line.
Producing seven 1`80's and a 101 average, he will now face Van Gerwen who he also has a poor record against albeit not 10 straight defeats.
