Van Gerwen: "Give me a set of brass darts and I'll beat 70% of the field"

Michael van Gerwen made the switch to darts manufacturer Winmau at the beginning of 2020 but since then, like many who change darts; he has had to go through a few changes to find his best set-up.

The number one in the world has time to do this during lockdown but is very satisfied with his new darts. "My new set-up is fantastic. We developed a monster version for me together with Winmau. Hopefully we can get back to the board soon so I can show what I can do with it", said Van Gerwen on his YouTube channel in conversation with Phill Barrs.

After a rough start to the season, Van Gerwen got his reward at the UK Open, the final major before the pandemic began and he spoke about the criticism he has got at times as of late.

"High trees take a lot of wind and I will always have a big target on my back. They can all say whatever they want but first they have to do it and if they do it I say well done but they are still miles behind me."

He also spoke about mentality in darts and made a bold statement about the set of darts not being an issue: "I think it's not only the darts, it's 90% yourself. Give me a set of brass darts and I'll beat 70% of the field as well. It's about the last few things which make the difference."
