Van Gerwen on title goals for 2022 season: "Minimum two, depends what you count as a televised tournament"

Michael van Gerwen heads into the 2022 season looking for a change in fortunes and has also seen a change in the Premier League Darts format which saw its first iteration this past week.

"It's a nice change around. Every game matters and that's what it's all about, that's what the fans want to see," said Van Gerwen to Online Darts.

But for 'Mighty Mike', he did start his major campaign poorly losing early at the Masters but said if it was going to be any tournament, he'd rather it be the unranked season opener.

"I was trying maybe a little bit too hard. It's just one of them things. It's always going to happen a few times a year and let it be the start of the year, doesn't really matter."

Rotterdam issues

On the Premier League roadshow, Van Gerwen could return to Rotterdam if restrictions allow but he doesn't think that will happen.

"I'm wondering if they will let it go ahead. I don't think so. But we're going to see what happens."

Major goals

But what he hopes will happen is multiple major titles and he has set himself particular targets for the 2022 season.

"Minimum two that's my goal. Depends what you count as a televised tournament, do you count the World Series then I think I can win more. Last year, I only won Copenhagen and I need to add some tournaments towards it this season."
