Wright closes in on World Number One spot in updated PDC Order of Merit

Peter Wright is closing in on the World Number One spot in the updated PDC Order of Merit after the opening weekend of Players Championship action.

'Snakebite' defeated Gerwyn Price in the final of the second tournament last Sunday and is now approaching the Welshman by just £5,500.

Price does have the advantage of not having any prize money to defend at the next two Players Championship tournaments this weekend. Wright has £6,000 in prize money at stake. Should Price lose in the first round on Saturday, Wright could take over the top spot with a title.

Ryan Searle reached his highest ever position in the world rankings. Searle, who reached the final on Saturday, rose by two spots to fourteenth place. That was at the expense of Nathan Aspinall, who had to give up two places. Luke Humphries defeated Searle in the first Players Championship tournament on Saturday, passing Danny Noppert.

Furthermore, Daryl Gurney (21) and Gabriel Clemens (22) changed places and the same applies to Damon Heta (28) and Vincent van der Voort (29).
