Van Gerwen pleased after avenging World Championship final defeat to Wright in Aberdeen: "I've put a lot of work in and I think I can build from here"

Michael van Gerwen came from 2-0 down against Peter Wright to go someway to avenging his World Championship final defeat on the opening night of the Premier League in Aberdeen.

Van Gerwen spoke afterwards and was pleased with how he played while openly admitting he is having trouble with his new darts.

He added though that it will take time and that practice doesn't mean anything as a result when playing on the big stage when going through this.

"I think it went well tonight, I can't complain with how I played," said Van Gerwen.

"I'm going through a tough time at the moment with getting used to my new darts.

"I can do whatever I want in practice with any darts but it's different when you're on the big stage.

"But the decision to change is something I needed to do for the long-term benefit of my career.

"Of course I felt under pressure tonight not being World Champion, but I've put a lot of work in and I think I can build from here."
