Van Gerwen reaches his first World Series final of the year with whitewash win over Wright

Michael van Gerwen is the first player through to the final at the Melbourne Darts Masters smashing Peter Wright in a whitewash win.

Van Gerwen wasn't at his best by any means averaging 96 but took advantage of a below par 'Snakebite' who averaged only 82 and missed five darts at double.

MVG started well going 4-0 up in no time at all capped off by a 124 checkout on the bull to make it 4-0 and already giving Wright an uphill task in the process.

This was made even harder with Wright averaging 78 and watching Van Gerwen as a result continue his charge with a 98 checkout to move 5-0 up.

By the interval he was 6-0 up and Wright was in need of a huge revival when he returned to the oche and it didn't come with Van Gerwen finishing off the win. He will now take on Rob Cross or Daryl Gurney in the final shortly.
