Van Gerwen was halted last night by Nathan Aspinall but with a draw the only result for 'The Asp' tonight, he moves ahead with an 8-4 win over his rival in 'The Flying Scotsman'.
The first four legs were shared between the duo with Anderson taking out 110 and MVG 116 before the former went 3-2 ahead.
But Van Gerwen kicked into gear from there with six perfect darts and an 11-darter on double 16 for a 4-3 advantage.
He went two clear at 5-3 up in a pivotal part of the match and broke again from there with another 116 to go towards the win at 6-3.
Anderson offered some resistance in the form of a 138 checkout to break back and trail 6-4 but this was only a consolation as he missed double 20 for a 110 checkout which saw MVG claim at least a point at 7-4.
From there, the Green Machine claimed the tie but will he remain top come the end of the week or is there yet another twist in the Premier League tale?
