Van Gerwen says Price is lying: 'The numbers say I'm right'

According to Michael van Gerwen, there is no doubt that he is the best dart player in the world when he is showing his best game. Recently Gerwyn Price said that no player can match his A-game.

The Welshman is full of confidence after winning the Grand Slam of Darts last week. ''If I play my A game then Michael doesn’t have a chance and if he plays his game, he probably thinks the same'', Price said during the tournament in Wolverhampton.

The latter is certainly the case, Van Gerwen assured. ''He says it because he has to say it. If he thinks it’s true, of course for himself that’s a good thing, but he knows it’s a lie and he knows it because he’s played me so many times in good form. Everyone knows and the stats say the same. If I play my best game then no one can beat me and they all know that, but no one will admit that, no one will say that. I understand that, but don’t worry, I will say it'', the Dutchman told Metro.co.uk.

Or could it be that Price made his statements to give himself some extra self-confidence? ''But factually I’m right. The numbers say I’m right.''

''To be fair he’s only been there a few years and I’ve been playing there a little bit longer, so I know what I’m talking about. Of course they have to believe in their own opportunities, but it’s all a fairy tale for them.''
