Van Gerwen sets sights on sixth Premier League crown following De Sousa win: "I won't be happy or satisfied with anything less"

Michael van Gerwen continued his reign at the top of the Premier League Darts table after seeing off Jose de Sousa in an 8-6 win.

It wasn't Van Gerwen at the peak of his powers with De Sousa missing two darts to snatch a draw but he is now looking likely to claim the winners' bonus.

He discussed his mindset when he has been through the darting doldrums in the past 18 months and admitted that he struggled with belief.

"It gives you confidence, it makes you pumped up. From here on, I hope I can do some more damage in the tournament," said Van Gerwen post match.

"You need to keep working hard, if you don't work hard you don't make any progression. The other guys are practicing hard constantly and you need to make sure you keep on top of them. I didn't play my A level but the will to win was there."

"I'm a guy who never gives up, maybe in the last 12 months, sometimes it wasn't there but I've been critical to myself and I've been working hard, then you have to bounce back."

Heading into finals night, Van Gerwen as a result only has one aim and that is a sixth Premier League crown.

"I'm here to win the title and I won't be happy or satisfied with anything less."
