Michael van Gerwen is through to the Champions League of Darts semi-finals with victory over Michael Smith where he survived a comeback from 'Bully Boy'.
As a result of Van Gerwen winning, Gary Anderson crashes out of the tournament meaning we are going to have a new champion in the event.
Van Gerwen demolished his way to a 5-0 lead to begin proceedings. This included a 118 checkout and as usual he capitalised on missed doubles from Smith to go massively ahead.
Smith though fought back smashing in 127 to put the deficit down to 5-1 and he reduced it further to 5-2. Was it game on for the Bully Boy?
By the interval it was 6-4 to Van Gerwen with Smith taking four out of the previous five legs to drag himself back into contention but despite that it was Mighty Mike who was still leading.
A clinical dart on double eight though saw Van Gerwen go towards the finishing line but despite potentially missing his chance, Smith capitalised on a missed dart on Van Gerwen to go only two behind.
Van Gerwen though established further daylight with a brilliant 74 checkout but despite Smith clawing a leg back, MVG went one away and then secured victory.
