Michael van Gerwen did not succeed in winning the twelfth matchday of the Premier League. Mighty Mike went down 6-5 in his opening match against the night winner James Wade.

Van Gerwen played very well in Dublin and had an average of 103. "Last year I would have been satisfied with such a high level and still lost. But my ambitions have been adjusted this year, I'm only satisfied with wins", Van Gerwen told Dartsnews.com.

"I played well, but still let it down a bit on my doubles," continued the 33-year-old Dutchman. "And that shouldn't happen, especially against such a Wade in top form. Still, I take the positive side of this match and can go into the Austrian Darts Open this weekend with my shoulders held high."

Austrian Darts Open

At that Austrian Darts Open, Van Gerwen is defending champion, after beating Ian White in the final in 2019. In 2020 and 2021, this tournament was not organised due to the pandemic. "This is another important tournament, I want to be sharp there and obviously hope to extend my title," he said.
