Van Gerwen thrashes Wright in Dutch Darting Demolition job, sets up World Grand Prix final showdown with Aspinall

Michael van Gerwen fired a warning to Peter Wright after reaching the semi-finals of the World Grand Prix that he was the better player and he certainly showed his class in a Dutch Darting Demolition as he sealed a 12-1 legs win (4-0 in sets) over his great rival.

He will now face Nathan Aspinall in the final on Sunday night in Leicester with his sights set on a third straight major title on Sky Sports after winning the Premier League and World Matchplay earlier this year. Truly spellbinding from the Green Machine.

Van Gerwen kicked off the tie with a 167 checkout to hold despite Wright being well back. He hit a 56 checkout on double 10 to break and go one away from the opening set.

A 94 checkout saw MVG continue his steam rolling start to break. A 98 checkout saw MVG continue the one sided beating to go towards a two sets lead.

Wright missed three darts to finally get a leg on the board but MVG missed three for the set. ‘Snakebite’ couldn’t hit five though and MVG sealed it.

A 67 checkout was followed by a break on double 20 as Van Gerwen went one away from a three sets lead. Wright finally sealed his first leg with a 73 checkout.

Wright missed droves of darts to hold and despite miscounting, Van Gerwen hit double 15 to seal a 3-0 sets lead.

MVG began the fourth set with a 124 checkout to break. He hit a 170 to leave 32 and when Wright missed a dart at double 20, Van Gerwen went one away. Wright couldn't hold and Van Gerwen produced a 53 checkout to win it.
