Van Gerwen gives brutal Wright assessment after World Grand Prix thrashing: "His darts were absolute crap"

Michael van Gerwen produced one of his most emphatic career wins on Saturday night as he sealed a 4-0 (12-1 in legs) demolition job of Peter Wright to reach the World Grand Prix.

After all the trash talk this week, Van Gerwen reigned supreme and he gave his honest assessment on 'Snakebite' post match.

"I think Peter really underperformed, he didn't play well. I think his darts were absolute crap and they made me win this game and it was quite easy to be fair. I wasn't struggling at one point in the game and it gives you confidence that makes you hungry for more," said Van Gerwen post match.

"With all due respect, he's been getting away with murder the last few games. Dimitri had match darts to beat him but you've still got to beat Peter Wright. He's a phenomenal player and I've got a lot of respect for him but he needs to shut his mouth and just throw his darts. That's where his strength is. When he talks too much, he's only going to put him off but he never learns."

Next up is Nathan Aspinall and he says that while he isn't counting his chickens yet, he knows what he needs to do to win.

"Is he back into form yet? I don't know but he's a phenomenal player, he's a fighter and he never gives up and that's why I admire him. He could have easily lost his game against Gezzy but Gezzy didn't turn up. He has the balls also to produce a good game against a player of his caliber, I know what I have to do to beat him. I have to focus and make sure I'm going to do exactly the same."
