Van Veen doesn't want to rush anything: "Top-16 within a few years and then we'll see"

One of the rising stars in the world of darts, Gian van Veen has big ambitions for the future. Just 20 years old though the Dutch prodigy is well aware that time is on his side and doesn't want to try and rush things.

In an interview with Red Dragon Darts for the supplier's official YouTube channel, van Veen is asked about his goals for the future. "For this year, my first year, I want to get to the World Championship," says the young Dutchman. "Maybe in five years I want to be in the top 64 at least. Maybe top 40, top 32 so you don't have to think about losing your tour card or worry about Q-school."

In a sign of the immense potential Gian van Veen has, the 20-year-old hit a nine-dart finish in his match-up against compatriot Jermaine Wattimena and averaged 108 in victory during Euro Tour qualifying earlier this week.

"In ten years who knows maybe top 16, top 10," van Veen continues. The Dutchman clearly has a mature head on young shoulders because when asked why he's not predicting himself to pick up a major title in the coming years, "no, because it's not realistic," he replies with a wry smile on his face.
