Sunday night
Stephen Bunting,
Nathan Aspinall,
Michael van Gerwen and
Dimitri van den Bergh competed for the final victory at the
Masters. After two very one-sided semifinals, the final was a lot more exciting.
In the first semifinal, Bunting won 11-1 over Aspinall to reach a major final within the PDC for the first time in his career. Then, in the second semifinal, Van Gerwen triumphed 11-2 against Van den Bergh.
In the final, Bunting and Van Gerwen were much more evenly matched. The game was broken open by a break of throw from Bunting in the eighth leg. However, 'The Bullet' could not enjoy that lead for long, as Van Gerwen broke him back in the eleventh leg.
A key moment in the final was then the sixteenth leg. Bunting missed one chance for a break, but Van Gerwen failed to take advantage of it. 'Mighty Mike' missed two chances to level at 8-8, before Bunting managed to get to 9-7 via double 16. That moment eventually proved to be key. Bunting threw an 11-darter for 10-7 and then finished the job with a 14-darter.
