During an exhibition event in Swansea, darter Joe Cullen showed a completely different side. He surprised the crowd by singing the iconic Welsh song Yma o Hyd. Dafydd Iwan's hit is a symbol of Welsh pride and resilience and is often sung at sporting events in Wales.
Cullen decided to showcase his musical talents during the event. His rendition of Yma o Hyd was met with loud cheers from the audience, who sang along to the song en masse. The darter himself seemed to have a great time and visibly enjoyed the special atmosphere in Swansea.
The choice of Yma o Hyd was striking, since Cullen himself is English. Nevertheless, his performance was greatly appreciated by the Welsh fans in attendance. The song, released in the 1980s, has enjoyed enormous popularity in recent years, in part because the Welsh football fans sing it.
Cullen is not the first darter to venture out to show off his singing skills. Stephen Bunting once sang on stage at a Euro Tour tournament the song Gold by Spandau Ballet. Adrian Lewis does occasionally tackle Robbie Williams' song Angels at exhibition events, and Jerry Hendriks gave his own rendition of the Dutch hit Engelbewaarder.
