The crowd in attendance at an exhibition event in Ennis, Ireland, were enthralled on Saturday night by what was a very spectacular match between Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphries.
This match may go into the books as the best darts match ever, although unfortunately the match was not televised. Humphries threw an average of 119.88, but it only earned "Cool Hand Luke" one leg. The world number one had to lose 6-1 to Price, who in turn came to an average of 118.64. Added up, the combined average came to 238.52.
Looking at the statistics, both players managed to throw an 11-darter as their best leg. Price recorded three 180 scores in seven legs, and Humphries even four. Highlight of the match was a 170 finish by Price, who managed to break his English opponent three times.
The official combined record stands at 228.65, which was set by Peter Wright and Adrian Lewis. The Scot and the Englishman played a spectacular match in the Premier League in 2017, in which Wright threw 119.50 average and Lewis 109.15. That duel was won 7-2 by Wright.
The highest individual average still stands in the name of Michael van Gerwen. The Dutchman won 7-1 over Michael Smith during the 2016 Premier League Darts thanks to an average of 123.40.
Ridiculous. Imagine averaging 119 and losing 6-1, my head would be on mars. pic.twitter.com/RNDhO8hypA
