Luke Humphries has been the unchallenged number one in the world rankings for more than a year. Recently, the 30-year-old Englishman took the time to answer questions sent in to him at Sky Sports.

Humphries quietly took his time answering some of those viewer questions. These included asking him what you should do if, after throwing two treble 20s, you are too excited to land that third dart to complete the 180. "You're obviously trying too hard," he says. "Maybe try to throw that third dart straight away and don't stop."

There are players who change darts a lot, think of Peter Wright, but other players swear by one and the same set. "When you're starting out you have to chop and change and try different things to see what works," Humphries notes. "It's all about trial and error, trying as many different things and see what works for you."

What about if someone is hitting 26 all the time? Humphries explains how it's key to work on throwing straight darts and that this in turn is something that requires practice.

That leaves the question of how many hours are best spent at the practice board. "When I first started playing darts, it was about four hours every day," Humphries said. "Now it's a maximum of one to two hours a day, sometimes I take a day off. Once you reach a certain level it is especially important to maintain that well."
