The thing that stood out for me from that game wasn’t the crowd or the bunting win, it was the great call from the referee to disallow a dart. Not something you see often👏
Russ Bray's replacement immediately made his mark last weekend. Charlie Corstorphine invalidated a throw by reigning world champion Luke Humphries.
The remarkable moment occurred in the second-round match between Stephen Bunting and Luke Humphries. With the score, 9-7 in Bunting's favour, Humphries was on 56 in the seventeenth leg. Humphries threw his first arrow into the single 16 and then was aiming to keep his hopes alive by pinning tops. 'Cool Hand Luke' threw his second dart into the single 5, however, which prevented him from getting a second chance at the double.
Out of frustration, Humphries then threw his third arrow at the board while he was already stepping on the oche. That is not allowed by the rules and so Corstorphine disallowed the last arrow and the referee recorded a score of 21.
