After a long career with the PDC, referee Paul Hinks is currently active on the Modus Super Series.
Calling the 180 score is often the hallmark of referees, think of the special way Russ Bray, for example, does it. "When you starting out and talking to other referees, you pick things up," says Hinks. "I used to do my 180s like Tony Green. But when I got to the PDC I was told that I need to get my own call, that's how I'd get recognised. I started using 'Maximum 180' but apparently Sky said it was too long for television."
"So anyway, had a think and I was actually listening to the Alice Cooper song 'School's out for Summer' and when it comes to the end of the song, I thought; I can get a 180 out of that!" laughs the 66-year-old referee.
