Van Veen not at World Grand Prix: "But I am proud of my achievements in my first year as a Tour Card holder"

Gian van Veen was left stranded in the third round at the Hungarian Darts Trophy. The 21-year-old Dutchman went down 6-4 against Damon Heta.

Van Veen did not reach his best level in that match. "Gutted to lose the match like this. I did not play anywhere near what I am capable of but neither did Damon to be fair and in the end the better player won today," Van Veen said on X (the former Twitter).

Because of this defeat, Van Veen narrowly misses out on participation in the World Grand Prix with Luke Woodhouse taking the final spot. "Of course it is tough to miss out on the World Grand Prix like this but I am proud of my achievements in my first year as a Tour Card holder and there is no shame in missing out."

Accordingly, Van Veen is already looking ahead. "The end of the year is going to be fully packed with other great tournaments in which I will participate."
