On Thursday night, Gerwyn Price reached his third Premier League Darts final of the season. While "The Iceman" had claimed victory in Dublin and Nottingham, things went awry for him in Berlin.
The Welshman needed to win just one match to secure his spot in the final. He had been set to face Michael van Gerwen in the quarterfinals, but the Dutchman withdrew shortly before the match due to a shoulder injury.
As a result, Price received a bye to the semifinals, where he comfortably dispatched Chris Dobey 6-2. That set up a showdown in the final against Stephen Bunting.
Bunting, meanwhile, secured his first win of this Premier League campaign in the German capital, defeating Nathan Aspinall 6-2 in the opening match. He then overcame Luke Humphries by the same scoreline to book his place in the final.
In a peculiar final, where the first six legs all went against the throw, Bunting edged out Price 6-5 amid raucous support from the German crowd.
Throughout the match, Price found himself on the receiving end of jeers from the audience. Boos rang out whenever the former rugby player stepped up to throw, prompting him to respond sarcastically on several occasions—raising his thumb or offering a mocking applause to the German fans.
Afterwards, Price took to Instagram to react to his final defeat. "Gutted to lose there in the final, vital points gone which people don't realise," began the former world champion's honest assessment. "We go on I suppose. Manchester next week."
