James Wade saw off Rob Cross in a dramatic last leg decider which saw 'The Machine' punish two missed match darts after the defending champion came back from 4-2 down to force a decider.
Wade moves on at the
European Championship, a tournament he won back in 2018 but admits that he is thinking about the future away from darts and helping people with Bipolar and ADHD and giving them support in life.
"It was bloody atrocious. I think I should have won quite easily but I didn't and Rob put up his normal barrage at the end. I think I should have done far better," said Wade to Online Darts.
"I've played absolutely rubbish for the last six months. I'm getting to the end now where I'm winding down, looking towards the end of my career. It's a little bit of frustration. Rob did what he did but I should have wrapped it up way earlier.
"I don't need darts, darts doesn't need me. I'm looking at other things away from darts. I want to try to help people with Bipolar and ADHD and all those other weird and wonderful things where someone like me can help for free. That's all I'm about. I'm nothing more complicated than that."
"There's loads of other dart players that are all about hype and hope and nonsense. I can help normal people that are in normal jobs go further in life, things are way bigger and better on my horizon to help people. There's a lot of people in a fortunate position where they don't know how lucky they are to push on and help other people."
