Wade seals showdown with Wright after winning 51st meeting with Van Barneveld at Baltic Sea Darts Open

A match highly billed before tonight's action with James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld, two darting legends facing off in the first round of the Baltic Sea Darts Open with the winner facing Peter Wright no less went to 'The Machine'.
Wade produced a clinical display to seal it 6-3 in typical James Wade fashion with 50% on the doubles and a high checkout of 103 as he went about his business in a surgical like manner.
It was the 51st meeting between the pair but the first since 2019 in the Premier League and the first on the European Tour since the doyen of Dutch Darts only title in these tournaments back in 2012 but he won't add to his haul this weekend.
Clinical displays have been the order of the night with Richard Veenstra making his debut as a Tour Card holder on the European Tour and showing the same form he has exhibited in recent weeks.
This by silencing home hopes as he saw off Florian Hempel 6-2. Producing a superb 75% on the outer ring, this included a high checkout of 110 from 'Flyers' who flies into a second round meeting with compatriot Dirk van Duijvenbode.
While Stephen Bunting will face Michael van Gerwen tomorrow after seeing off William O'Connor. He hit 6/11 on the doubles including a high checkout of 152 as he went 4-1 with a 120 checkout and 5-2 up initially on the Magpie.
But in the end, he sealed it 6-4 surviving a late onslaught to move through with a 14-darter on double eight after O'Connor had missed a dart to send it all the way.
