The first round has drawn to a close at the
Baltic Sea Darts Open with
Steve Beaton and
Daryl Gurney sealing their spots in Saturday's action.
Beaton will now face Nathan Aspinall and 'The Bronzed Adonis' had the performance of the opening day with a sensational win over Adrian Lewis.
Billed alongside the titanic tussle of James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld, it was Beaton that produced with an incredible 106 average and 60% on the doubles to see off 'Jackpot' 6-2.
Lewis took the early 2-1 lead but it was one way traffic for Beaton from there who claimed five legs on the spin with a 103 checkout to start and 14 or 15 darters every single leg. After initially missing 86 on the bull for the win, he hit double eight to move through.
While for Gurney, top seed Luke Humphries now awaits as another German home hope headed out in the form of Gabriel Clemens.
He survived a match dart from Clemens edging him out in a deciding leg and now only Lukas Wenig, Niko Springer and tomorrow Martin Schindler remain from the initial contingent.
