Wade surges past Rydz in deciding leg thriller, Cross holds off late comeback from Aspinall

The second round has began at the 2021 Players Championship Finals with James Wade and Rob Cross the first winners through from the main stage.

Wade was the first into the Last 16 after sealing a thrilling win over Callan Rydz 6-5.

He let out a roar at the end befitting of his win after firing in six 180's and a 100.5 average with both averaging over a ton in the end but it was 'The Machine' who secured the victory.

While for Cross, he held off a spirited late revival from Nathan Aspinall who came from 5-3 down to look to send the tie all the way.

But in the end 'Voltage' surged through 6-4 with a 97.7 average and 6/7 on the doubles as he denied the Stockport ace another good run in Minehead.

Over on Stage Two though, Vincent van der Voort continued his good form with a 97.5 average and a high checkout of 121 to edge past Andy Boulton 6-5.

Followed by Ryan Searle who came from 5-1 down and survived multiple match darts to snatch a 6-5 win over Ryan Joyce who looked to be coasting into the Last 16 in Minehead but alas it is 'Heavy Metal' who does.
