Wattimena stuns Wright to reach maiden major Quarter-Final at World Grand Prix

Jermaine Wattimena has continued his brilliant rise and is now into a maiden major Quarter-Final at the World Grand Prix.
This came after victory over Peter Wright in a stunning display from the Dutchman; who was visibly emotional at the end and couldn't believe what he had done. He will now take on Glen Durrant; in what will be a huge run for either player who makes it past that.
To start off proceedings, it was very close between the pair with Wright smashing in a 111 checkout the initial highlight; but he produced the goods as well to claim the set hitting a 148 checkout.
Wattimena though came back taking the second set in quick succession winning consecutive legs to level the match up; with an 89 average and 50 percent on the finishing.
He made it four legs on the spin but Wright finally came back to break to make it 2-1 and potentially put himself in the ascendancy but despite that Wattimena was unfazed.
He broke back immediately then claimed the set with Wright missing set darts. Wattimena stepped up and hit a 100 checkout to snatch it at the death.
To start off an important set for both players, it was the Dutchman who had problems with the finishing to start off with but they were soon dispelled with him going one away. He broke back to level at 2-2 but when he missed the opportunity to send it the distance, Wattimena sealed it on D12.

- This coming from the lowest ranked player in it who was only selected by his paranoia for attention from the crowd by having to conduct the crowd to his walk on music. I know a lot of darts fans who cannot stand Arsepinall, oddly I know people who don't like darts but frequently attend events for the atmosphere and have no idea who was playing. - Is this the start of an attempt to say that he (Littler) is the best ever as he has won most money. Perhaps adjust all prize money earned by allowing for inflation. If Littler gets close too (does not even have to overtake) both MVG’s and Taylor’s Major titles total then he is in the conversation. Indicates to me that the prize money is skewed to much towards the top players, meritocracy must rule but a fair distribution of the money is needed otherwise its only ever about a select few.Mysstree09-01-2025

- It is shocking and unbelievable that 2 Hotty who was always such a decent player, 2 time World Champion and won the Grand Slam when it meant something. He really should have joined the PDC earlier. He has just disappeared off the radar. Such a shame when one of your favourite players just dissappears. I guess he is concentrating on the carpentry. I made a sign at Lakeside which must have been the biggest ever. It said we're potty for 2 Hotty, each word was on its own flip chart sheet of paper and gaffer taped together.
