Durrant defeats Cross to reach World Grand Prix Quarter-Finals on debut in thriller

Glen Durrant is through to the Quarter-Finals of the World Grand Prix in his debut in the tournament after a thrilling victory over Rob Cross.
Durrant went 2-1 up in sets before Cross set up a deciding set in what was a thrilling conclusion to proceedings but it was the Teesside ace who booked his place in the Last Eight, can he go all the way on the Emerald Isle.
He had an excellent first set as he produced a timely 13 darter after the first few legs went with throw to claim it and hand himself the early momentum.
Cross though wanted to hit straight back and he did so smashing in a 144 checkout to double his lead in the second set. He then hit a 134 checkout to secure it without reply in an exceptional passage of play from the current World Matchplay champion.
Durrant led in set three with a 90 checkout but the next leg paled in comparison with Cross taking 28 darts to win it to make it 1-1. A crucial 109 checkout did it for 'Duzza' though as he regained the lead with a 3-1 set win and the onus was now on him to complete the job.
Durrant went one away from the victory in the requisite set but Cross showed real fighting spirit to force a deciding leg with a break of throw followed by a 138 checkout to square it up.
It began to really become nervy in the decider but it was Duzza that led and after Cross missed three darts at doubles, he stepped in to go one away and then his prowess showed as he moved through to the Quarter-Finals claiming the match.

- This coming from the lowest ranked player in it who was only selected by his paranoia for attention from the crowd by having to conduct the crowd to his walk on music. I know a lot of darts fans who cannot stand Arsepinall, oddly I know people who don't like darts but frequently attend events for the atmosphere and have no idea who was playing. - Is this the start of an attempt to say that he (Littler) is the best ever as he has won most money. Perhaps adjust all prize money earned by allowing for inflation. If Littler gets close too (does not even have to overtake) both MVG’s and Taylor’s Major titles total then he is in the conversation. Indicates to me that the prize money is skewed to much towards the top players, meritocracy must rule but a fair distribution of the money is needed otherwise its only ever about a select few.Mysstree09-01-2025

- It is shocking and unbelievable that 2 Hotty who was always such a decent player, 2 time World Champion and won the Grand Slam when it meant something. He really should have joined the PDC earlier. He has just disappeared off the radar. Such a shame when one of your favourite players just dissappears. I guess he is concentrating on the carpentry. I made a sign at Lakeside which must have been the biggest ever. It said we're potty for 2 Hotty, each word was on its own flip chart sheet of paper and gaffer taped together.
