Dave Chisnall has long been ranked amongst the best players in the PDC. Although major wins have proven illusive, the 44-year-old Englishman has already played six major finals and has been a consistent presence in the world's top 16 for around a decade. As it turns out though, Chizzy might also have something of a reputation for enjoying himself away from the oche.
Chisnall had a relatively successful 2024, including two title wins on the Players Championship circuit and two more on the European Tour. At the TV majors, however, things have not been going as smoothly for him of late, and that may have also cost him an invite for the 2025 Premier League Darts. He is therefore keen on a strong performance at the major tournaments this year.
On-stage drinking of alcohol during darts matches has not been allowed for quite some time, and the PDC also does not like alcohol to be associated with the sport at all. In the podcast'Darts Draait Door', however, former PDC Tour Card holder Jeffrey de Zwaan brought up a remarkable story involving Chisnall. "I don't know if I'm allowed to say this," De Zwaan wonders, before saying it anyway. "At the Pro Tour in Barnsley you have a pool centre. We were having a nice drink there after the tournament and at one point Chisnall was just out of control."
However, the booze apparently did not affect Chisnall's performance much, as he was successful on the Pro Tour the day after his excesses. "I see him walking and he just wins the tournament. He was just fit, nothing wrong. Bizarrely good level," De Zwaan laughs.
This story came as no surprise to co-podcast host Vincent Van der Voort, who of course was active on the Pro Tour for many years and knows Chisnall well. "He can do that," Van der Voort added with a chuckle.
