Gerwyn Price and Jim Williams have opted to withdraw from the European Darts Matchplay, the PDC has reported when announcing the draw for the Euro Tour event in Trier.
A reason for the cancellations of the two Welsh darters was not given. However, it was made clear that their spots will be taken by Callan Rydz and Andrew Gilding.
For Williams, it is the second time this year that he has qualified for a Euro Tour tournament but then failed to show up. Incidentally, the Welshman did play three other European Tour tournaments.
Price has only played five Euro Tour tournaments this year. He competed in the first four Euro Tour tournaments of 2023, of which he even managed to win two. However, the qualifying race for Euro Tours 5 to 8 had ended earlier, and 'The Iceman' was not automatically qualified for the four subsequent events. Price had no appetite for qualifying tournaments and decided to skip them instead. Price then did enter Euro Tour 9, but now misses the tenth competition of this season.
One of our World Cup winning heroes will be back in action this weekend as the European Darts Matchplay heads to Trier. 🇩🇪
