Night 2 of the 2024
Premier League Darts took place on Thursday night in Berlin, with
Michael van Gerwen proving the strongest and taking the weekly win.
"Wow! What quality we had tonight," reflected former Premier League star and three-time world champion,
John Part for Sky Sports. "So many matches going the distance and really, it was a treat of darts. What the Premier League is supposed to be."
In fact, all but two of the matches played went the distance on Thursday night with a Premier League record number of legs being played (75 out of a maximum 77).
"Absolute brilliance from Michael van Gerwen in the end but also from
Luke Littler. What a performance! He must be gutted on those two darts," Part says of a tight final that van Gerwen eventually prevailed in 6-5. "He (Luke Littler ed.) normally just goes rat-a-tat but he considered for a while, that's not his thing. Next time he'll just go bang bang and win."
"I feel like Michael's game is coming together well. It's on the backbone of hitting those pressure doubles because when you have the timing to hit those third dart doubles and discourage your opponent as van Gerwen is doing, he's really putting himself at the top of the table in terms of form," 'Darth Maple' concludes.
