GRANDSLAM GP1 WHITLOCK1A
Simon Whitlock and James Wade are successfully through to the knockout stages of the Grand Slam of Darts with victories over Gary Anderson and Jermaine Wattimena respectively.
Whitlock eased past Anderson who once again struggled with injury but it was the in-form Wizard who came through in a 5-1 win to rubber stamp his place in the next round. To begin the tie, he took out 124 to double his lead early on.
Anderson halved the deficit with a 76 checkout to make it 2-1 but this proved to be a mere consolation as Whitlock eased through 5-1.
While Wade is first through in Group F after seeing off Wattimena in a 5-3 victory and has knocked Glen Durrant out of the running as well.
The latter romped into a 2-0 lead but Wade came back to level the score and in typical Wade fashion, he pounced after Wattimena missed two darts at a double.
Wade came back to hit a 72 finish to make it 4-2 from there and despite Wattimena asking the question to make it 4-3, the Aldershot ace answered to win through.
